Position Opening: Public Works Department
Overview:
The Town of Rolling Hills is seeking a motivated individual to join our team in the Public Works Department. This is a permanent, full-time position with benefits.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain town-owned property, vehicles and buildings
- Operate equipment including vehicles, push mowers, string mowers, riding mowers, tractor, and skidsteer
- Minor landscaping
- Maintain and service all vehicles and equipment
- Maintenance of town streets and signage
- Fence repair, removal and installation
- Maintenance of park and recreation areas, equipment, public restrooms and buildings
- Trash and waste removal; disposal of animal carcasses, weeds and debris
- Snow removal during regular working hours and during early morning and evening hours, weekends and holidays as needed; this includes using a truck and plow, snow blower and hand shovel
- Maintenance and operation of water system including wells, chlorination systems, chlorination chemicals, buildings, tanks, meters, meter pits, curb stops, hydrants and lines
- Trouble-shoot issues that may arise with the water system
- Available as an on-call water operator and work call-out jobs outside of normal working hours
- Perform monthly, quarterly and annual tasks such as reading water meters, testing water, delivering water tests to lab, preparing reports, scheduled maintenance of equipment, preparing inventory, and assisting with budget
- Assist with event set-up and tear-down as needed
- Maintain a Level I water operator’s license
- Maintain a pesticide license
- Follow all safety protocols and procedures
Qualifications:
- Experience with lawn mowing and basic landscaping tasks
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Strong physical stamina and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Reliable transportation to and from work
- Level I water operator license or the ability and willingness to achieve the same
- Pesticide license or the ability and willingness to achieve the same
- Knowledge of basic computer programs
- Knowledge of SCADA programs or the ability to learn
- Knowledge of water systems or the ability to learn
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to pass all background tests including, but not limited to, driving, drug usage, and criminal
- Willingness to work as part of a team and take direction
Schedule and Compensation:
- Work in this permanent, full-time position is 40 hours per week
- Work over 40 hours per week may be necessary for snow plowing, being on-call and receiving call-outs for the water system, and other work that may infrequently occur
- Hours are generally 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with an unpaid half-hour lunch; hours will be discussed further upon interview and hiring
- Competitive hourly rate commensurate with experience
- Benefits include sick leave, vacation leave, paid holidays, paid on-call days, paid call-out time, retirement and insurance
- This is an at-will position and employee may be terminated or leave employment, with or without cause, at any time
